AD-65 Candidate Fatima Iqbal-Zubair’s Extreme Agenda: Defunding the Police, Killing Union Jobs, Boundless Hypocrisy
California’s 65th Assembly District is home to thousands of union households and working families who want good-paying middle-class jobs, safe communities, and leaders they can trust — who are honest and pragmatic. Fatima Iqbal-Zubair is not that candidate.
Below is an outline of publicly available posts on social media, quotes and/or segments from news and other online sources, all highlighting Fatima Iqbal-Zubair’s radical views, her hypocrisy, anti-union rhetoric, and attacks on public safety.
Fatima wants to defund the police & ban police unions:
Fatima Iqbal-Zubair’s record reveals a pattern of hostility toward police officers and public safety unions.
Iqbal-Zubair has used her platform to promote extreme anti-police positions, calling to defund police departments, ban police unions, and abolish qualified immunity, putting her directly at odds with the law enforcement officers and union members who serve the communities of AD-65.
Iqbal-Zubair has also adamantly opposed the presence of school resource officers in schools, despite officers serving as the first line of defense in protecting students when mass shootings tragically occur.
Fatima claims to be an anti-war candidate — yet bankrolls her campaigns from a defense contractor:
While portraying herself as anti-war and pro-environment candidate, Iqbal-Zubair self-funded her two failed Assembly campaigns in 2020 and 2022 with over $500,000 of personal funds (see here and here) — including money from defense contractor Raytheon, where her husband is employed.
In addition to manufacturing weapons for the United States and U.S. allies, Raytheon — one of the world’s largest weapons manufacturers — has sold arms to countries with abhorrent human rights records, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, and was fined by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for violating clean water laws.
Fatima was found in violation of California’s Political Reform Act by the Fair Political Practices Commission for failing to disclose her spouse’s significant income — money she used to bankroll her campaign — from Raytheon Intelligence & Space.
At the same time, Fatima hypocritically and repeatedly claims to take no corporate or special interest money, tweeting the following:
Also hypocritically, Fatima has tweeted calls to demilitarize the planet and defund the Pentagon, while simultaneously profiting from defense spending and using that money to fund her political campaign.

Fatima’s Democratic Socialist agenda is out of touch with AD-65 voters:
Endorsed by the radical Democratic Socialists of America in 2022 and 2020 — an organization that shares Fatima’s views of defunding the police — the organization also supports policies like ending private property, withdrawing from NATO, and ending U.S. military aid to all governments, among other extreme positions, the voters of AD-65 have twice rejected her at the ballot box.
In 2022, Fatima lost by a whopping 23.4 percentage points.
In 2020, Fatima lost by 19 percentage points.
Fatima wants to kill 112,000 energy sector jobs — many of them union jobs:
More than 112,000 Californians are employed in the oil and natural gas industry — including many union jobs at refineries throughout the state.
While California has led the nation in renewable energy and the transition to a clean energy future, the vast majority of Californians — especially working families — still drive gas-powered vehicles and rely on fossil fuels for home energy. Most of those who drive electric vehicles and use electricity to power their homes still rely on California’s grid, which gets nearly half of its energy from natural gas-fired power plants.
Assembly District 65 is home to many of these energy-sector union jobs — and despite that — Fatima has stated publicly:
"I would have supported ending oil drilling,”
“Oil runs this world. Divest from it…"
Fatima Iqbal-Zubair has also called for a stop to fossil fuel projects, without any plan for what the transition would look like. While California is working toward a clean energy future, we are not ready today to simply stop using fossil fuels immediately, which would lead to tens of thousands of Californians losing their jobs.
It would also force the state to import more fossil fuels from other states and foreign countries like Saudi Arabia. Lower supplies would also mean higher costs for working Californians across the state.
What’s worse?
At the same time Fatima touts policies to kill union jobs in the oil and natural gas industries — she has sought out support from unions representing workers in those same industries — often misleading them about her radical agenda. After learning about her deceit — some unions have even pulled their endorsement of her.
Conclusion:
The evidence above illustrates that Fatima Iqbal-Zubair is not only too extreme and out of touch with the people of AD-65 — but also that she has misled the public about her radical views, her personal finances, her record of evading campaign disclosure rules — and more. All these items point to the fact that Fatima cannot be trusted.
